The second annual PeachFest (www.peachfest.org) celebration will open its doors Sunday, July 29 from 4 – 7pm for general admission (3 p.m. for VIP guests). FlatironCity (Fairlie-Poplar) will once again host 65 food artisans, pastry chefs and barkeeps all collaborating around a food or beverage offering based on peaches to bring culinary innovation for nearly 1,000 attendees.
I did a recap of the first PeachFest. Check it out here!
After two years (2016, 2017) of unseasonably warm spring months bringing us devastating harvests, Peach farming has finally flourished this year. While we celebrate this change for the better, we must also remember to be grateful for our farmers. Without hands in the dirt, we would never see food on our plates and that’s what PeachFest is all about.
With a booming peach season and an extraordinary list of participating chefs, the festival is determined to raise awareness for Piggy Bank, a start-up farm in Missouri devoted to supporting new family farms and providing aid to those facing disaster (fire, flood and disease), and causes dedicated to growing interest in young farmers to take up the art of growing food. With the average age of a U.S. farmer approaching 60, we are launching a “Grow a Farmer” initiative that will help young aspiring agrarians find apprenticeships and opportunities. In an effort to bring education to the forefront our friends Judd Foster of South of Heaven BBQ alongside Steven Lingenfelter will present an edible discussion and side by side breed tasting of heritage breed pigs on the culinary stage with farmers Jon Jackson of Comfort Farms (Mulefoot), Charlotte Swancy of Riverview Farms (Berkshire), and Marc Mousseau of Hamthropolgy (Ossabaw) followed by a butcher demo with Rusty Bowers of Pine Street Market.
The festival boasts an impressive roster of top local chefs include Andre Gomez of Porch Light Latin Kitchen, Julio Delgado of New Realm Brewing Company, Hector Santiago of El Super Pan, Jose Mendin of Pubbelly Miami, Archna Malhorta Becker of Bhojanic, Chad Clevenger of Alma Cocina, Elodie Westover of Golden Eagle + Muchacho, Joy Jessup and Rebecca Weil of Sugar Spun Fun, Lasheeda Perry of Bar Margot at Four Seasons Atlanta, Paul Westin of Rathbun’s, Kristia Paz of One Eared Stag, Drew Van Leuvan of Seven Lamps, Charmaine Enslin of Pouch Pies, Rebecca Williamson of Holmsted Fines Chutney, Mykel Burkhart of Miller Union, Derrick Green of APRON at Solis Two Porsche Drive, Nate Singer of Carter Country Meats, Michael Yang of Char Korean BBQ and Grill, Richard Bradford of True Fare, Matt Marcus of Watershed, Nick Leahy of Aix, and Jeb Aldrich of Tiny Lou’s at Hotel Claremont, Ramesh Kaduru of The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, Terry Koval and Stevenson Rosslow of Wrecking Bar, Hudson Rouse of Rising Son, Marc and Lydia Mousseau of Hamthropolgy, David Larkworthy of Five Seasons Brewing, Bob and Leslie Lewis of Southern Crust.
Eight of the Atlanta’s best barkeeps will be competing in the “Peach Punch Royale” featuring bourbon from Breckenridge Distillery. Those serving up peach inspired bourbon punches include Stephanie Heggood of Brezza Cucina, Jose Pereiro of Drift Fish House & Oyster Bar, Bobby Gover of The Mercury, Iván Goitía of Himitsu, Parris Emon Broadus of Chicken + Beer, Kelsey Kenny of The Painted Duck, Dylan Ogozelec and Rori Robinson of The Painted Pin.
