Music has a magical way of bringing people together. So does great wine and delicious food. I had the opportunity to experience all three at Vino & Voices, presented by OurSong. OurSong is Atlanta’s Gay and Lesbian Chorus, and it was founded in 2002. This talented group of men and women from all over the metro-Atlanta area has created quite a buzz through their incredible and diverse musical performances.
Vino & Voices treated guests to a wine tasting and discussion led by Lynda Weaver, CSW, WSET II (Certified Specialist of Wine and Wine & Spirit Education Trust Level II).
Each wine was paired with a dish from the host venue, 1910 Public House. And of course, we enjoyed performances throughout the evening by soloist Kimberly Waters.
I’ll save you the horror of hearing me sing. But I will share the wines and food we were served.
Wine: Shaya Verdejo Rueda, Spain
Wine: Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Sainte Claire Chablis, France
Wine: Honoro Vera Garnacha Calatayud, Spain
Wine: Masi Campofiorin Veneto, Italy
Wine: Tenuta Biserno Campo di Sasso Insoglio Tuscany, Italy
I’d have to say that my favorite dishes were the Boiled Peanut Hummus and the Pimento Cheese. As a southern girl, I already love boiled peanuts. But I’d never had them in hummus form. Mind. Blown. And of course, you really can’t go wrong with a good pimento cheese spread. The addition of the bacon jam was perfection.
As for the wines, I loved them all. And with Lynda’s guidance, sampling them was so much better. Her commentary and education made the wine tasting an entertaining and informative experience.
I’d never heard of OurSong previously (shame on me), but I’m definitely attending their next show. The people I met were amazing, and I know that their performances will be just as incredible as this organization is.
